We
are led to believe that this congregational autonomy makes a common doctrine
impossible. Yet, in thousands of congregations across this world, it occurs.
Mead and Hill’s book, The Handbook of Denominations published in 1990,
discusses the churches of Christ and says that no one organization or publication
speaks for us. They write, “Since the status of these institutions is unofficial,
none authorized to speak for the entire church, their conformity of ideas
and teachings is all the more remarkable.”
In
actuality it isn’t remarkable at all. We demand a Scriptural reason for
everything that we do. The Restoration Plea is that we will do only that
which we have authority to do in the New Testament in organization, in
worship, in salvation and in benevolence (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Jude 3). Therefore,
if this ideal is maintained, it is not impossible to have unanimity of
thought. In fact, if everyone dropped their man made creeds and organizations
and went back to the Bible, all religious groups worldwide would believe
and practice the same things.
We
are just north of beautiful, historic Savannah, Georgia in Effingham
County, one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. We average
around 60-75 on Sunday morning and are continually growing.
As
yet, we do not have elders but we have a strong group of men who lead the
work here in truth and vision. We have a full-time minister, John Wright,
a vigorous Ladies' Group and growing youth group.
In
addition to our local work, we support the Raintree
Children’s Home in Valdosta, Georgia.
We
would love to have you come and worship with us and become a part of our
work here at Highway 30. We need laborers as there is much work to do!
